小 說 ﹝ 哲 學 入 門 ﹞ |
This book is suitable for those of you who like philosophy but don't know where to start. It explains the concepts of many great philosophers and is very simple and interesting to read.
Sophie, the main character in this novel, received a letter in which 2 questions were asked: "Who are you?" and "Where did the world come from?" and from then, she started her philosophical journey with the mysterious sender and his chain of letters.
From mythology, Democritus, Socrates, Plato of the Greek classical time to Sigmund Freud, the Big Bang Theory of the Modern time, the marvellous history of the Western philosophy is told through the adventure of Sophie and the sender. With more plots revealed, Sophie and the sender found out that they were just novel characters bound by the author of this book, Gaarder. An escape from Gaarder's control was planned but could they make it? You, the pursuer of philosophy, have to find out in this book yourself.
Note: As for those who are interested more in fantasy, Rex2 recommends another book that is also written by Jostein Gaarder. It is called "The Solitaire Game". It is basically a fantasy novel with only a tint of philosophical thoughts. The publisher is Farrar, Straus and Giroux (FSG).Rex2
